Each phone carrier maintains a list of numbers that they determine to be spam risks based on the history of the number.
- Phone Numbers on this list will have a "spam" label attached to the Caller ID and displayed for any of the carrier's customers.
- These carriers update their lists periodically with phone numbers that have been reported to them. They also have their own internal requirements and will proactively label phone numbers based on factors such as: size, volume, rejection from their customers, etc.
- Currently, there is no one central database or service that manages this designation/label assigned to a phone number.
What Can I Do If a Carrier Has Labeled My Number?
- The fastest and easiest way to remove the spam designation from your number is to register your numbers for free at https://www.freecallerregistry.com/fcr/.
- This site helps register and whitelist your number with major carriers, such as At&t, Verizon, and more. It also reduces the future chances of your numbers being flagged with this label.
Note: Clarity Voice applied for and received an A-level federally backed STIR/SHAKEN Certificate, indicating outbound calls from a Clarity Voice phone number do not meet the high call volume threshold to be marked as Spam for this specific reason.
I've Registered My Numbers, What Next?
Registering your phone numbers is the first, and usually only, step needed to remove the spam label.
Occasionally a single carrier may continue to attach this label even after registration. If this should occur, you can register your number individually with that carrier.
How Can Clarity Help?
If you have already registered your business and are past the waiting period that they have provided for updating and removing the lable, it is possible that some, but not all of the carriers, have removed the label.
- If this should happen, please contact us. If you know the carrier that did not update, then we can assist you with submitting a ticket directly to that carrier.
- If you do not know the carrier, we can still help by test-calling out of your domain to known carriers and determining if the label is sent through to them. Once we have helped you identify the carrier, we can then assist you with submitting a ticket directly to that carrier.
- If requested, while we are waiting for the carrier to update, we can also temporarily change the outbound Caller ID number that you are calling from to any other number that you own.
- This can be a marketing number that points to a Clarity number, or another phone number on your Clarity domain that has not experienced the spam label before. This temporary change will allow you to continue calling out with minimal interruption to your business.
